Alief Texas is a part of west Houston, in the western part of Harris County. Miles of farmland once separated Houston and Alief, but in the 1970s Houston took over most of Alief. However, this did not stop Alief from becoming heavily urbanized. In the late 1990s, the Latin American and Asian immigrants moved to Alief. The area is now one of the largest Asian-American populated areas in Houston. The cities population is also made up of a large number of Middle Eastern, Caribbean, and African immigrants.
